2006 VW GTI 2.0 Turbo

Page 1 - Page 2 - Page 3 - Page 4 - Page 5 - Page 6

Selling my 2006 VW GTI, it’s hard to do this but she is hardly driven now that I work from home.  All service documents (listed below & original supplied) prove this, only 2,000 odd miles in one year, so I cannot justify keeping such a nice car that I never drive.

95% of the miles are all highway, commuting up and down HWY 101, very little city driving.  Car has always been filled with Premium Shell or Chevron Techron gas, no cheap 7/11 gas.

Dealer KBB Price for this car is $20,800
Private Party KBB Price for this car is $18,450 Excellent / $17,550 Good / $16,350 Fair

I would estimate this car to be in Good to Excellent Condition.  The reason why the dealer price is listed is that KBB does not take into account the warranty for this car which is transferable to the new owner for a small fee (which I will pay).  Its 2012 or 100,000 miles, this is better than your typical used car lot dealer warranty.  The standard factory warranty of the car was 4 years or 50,000 miles with a 5 year or 60,000 power train warranty.

Since this is a 2006 model, you actually get some additional features such as the dashboard is a slightly better material.  The headlamp washers are also operational, these were deleted (I believe) in the 2007 model.  Personally I don’t like the silver buttons present on the newer models.

The AC was completely changed out at 20k miles, there was a fault with the serpentine belt and the complete system was removed.  I have the receipts for the work to prove this.  The new AC units are now 100% reliable.  If your looking at any early GTi, make sure this work has been done, it’s only a matter of time before the belts fail prematurely.

The only options I did not tick was the DSG (I prefer the stick shift by miles and I hate the DSG servicing costs), Bluetooth and Navigation.  The BlueTooth / Navigation units can be picked up for around $1000 (VW Original) or $500 (Clone).

The sticker price (included) for the car was $25,900 USD.  I also opted for…

Extended Warranty at 100k Miles or 72 Months (Expires 01/22/2012)
Five year motor club tire & wheel protection
Xzilon Protective Covering (Paint, Vinyl & Leather).

I believe I was just over $30k with all these options.

Okay, so these protective coverings are dubious if they actually do anything.  However, I liked the 5 year warranty they gave on the leather or vinyl, if the dash cracks or leather dries out, its all covered.

Paint is perfect by the way.  Even though I am in the valley, the car was on the West cost for most of its life.  It’s always been garaged and never left out in the sun.

Servicing costs from the VW dealer are very reasonable.  As you can see I have spent only $1122.28 in total over the three years I have owned her.  I can average around 36MPG highway and about 28MPG around the town.

The Negatives

The rear, right hand rim has had some knocks and scrapes; it’s the worst on the car, looks great from 10 feet.  I was going to replace this rim, I found some replacements on eBay for $150 ~ $200 but since the rear tires are new I decided against it.

The front, right hand rim, has one small scrape and one scratch.  Its in okay condition but its not perfect.  The drivers side rims are perfect.

The front tires are getting close for replacing, again, since I don’t drive the car that much I haven’t got around to it.

There is one tiny ding on the roof, its tiny, never noticed it before and I have no idea how it happened.  There is also a tiny ding on the black trim by the window.  I have tried to picture these, they are difficult too see, only at certain angles, maybe ¼” in size.

There are a few stone chips on the hood, I took pictures of these, see page five.

The bumper has a couple of scratches where things have been loaded in and out of the boot.  These could be buffed out.  Again, picture on page five.

The passenger and drivers seat leather is in good condition, a couple of little scrapes, I talked to a leather guy and he mentioned they could be easily cleaned up to look like new.

The side mirrors have built in indicators, on the passenger side of ours the lens is cracked.  I have a new replacement coming from the VW garage, if I get the chance I will fit it, otherwise its supplied with the car.

The passenger floor mats are missing there clips, again, waiting on these replacement from my VW garage, these will take 2 seconds to fit and will be included.

I have been 100% honest about the description of the car, maybe a little too honest, how many ads do you see with all the above information?  However, I want to make sure you know exactly what you are getting.  The pictures of the car were taken when I just vacuumed and washed her.  It has not been detailed.  Again, I want you to see exactly the condition of the car, nothing has been hidden or covered up.  I have seen many other 2007 and 2008 GTI’s and I can say mine is in as good condition as these!

Included in the sale will be….

1 x Original & Collectible GTI Fast
1 x VW Driver Magazine with information on the GTI

1 x Original Owners Manual

All the paperwork & history that comes with the car

2 x Sets of Original Keys & 1 x Original Valet Key

1 x Set of VW Original Floor Mats

If you’re a California buyer we can see how to transfer the vanity plate, MYGTIVW, which is on the car.

Still awake?  Now on to pricing!

What I want for the car is $14,350.  That’s two thousand under the fair KBB price and this car, in my opinion is good to excellent.  A $4100 USD saving over KBB regular private party price and my local VW garage has a similar GTI for $20,500 on there lot (2007 but same miles).  I have priced it this way as you will need to replace the front tires in the next six months and you will also need to put her in for the 40k service (about $400 my dealer told me).  I don’t want to mess around and wait for weeks for a buyer, I want the car sold.

I will also entertain trades.  I am looking for something like…

Saab 900/9000/9-3/9-5
VW Golf
Volvo 240/850/S70/V70
BMW 320i (E21), 318i, 325i, 325e, 525i, etc  Anything up to a 5 series

Anything like the above, a 320i would be my first choice but I am open.  Obviously cash down at your end, minimum of $11k + your car.  I still need a second car for the odd trip to the bank.

Email me, richard@omniinstruments.net with any questions.  Car is located in Visalia, CA.
